Desperation is a horror novel by Stephen King. It was published in 1996 at the same time as its "mirror" novel, The Regulators.

Nicoline had a suitor visiting her yesterday, so she has been desperate to go outside all day. Even though when he approached her she chased him away, silly cat-face. I don't want any kittens on my little 13 year old lady, so she's staying inside! And I can't give Pernille special treatment, so she has to stay inside too. Poor kitties.
